It’s only been a few days since I’ve started the analytics program at Wake, but we have reviewed several key concepts that are essential to understanding the data analysis process; While I have some experience in analytics I think the following process cannot be over-reviewed or over-emphasized:

We reviewed the value of each step at a high level and talked through the importance of being able to communicate the final results to stakeholder. Leveraging this process takes time and practice, and only through time and dedications, can analytics practitioners harness the true power of the process. Each step has tremendous value and are never mastered due to the complexity and variety of analysis.

Software: We will be starting off using SAS, which I have limited experience with, but am intrigued with it’s power and versatility. When moving past spreadsheet analysis and simple data investigations, learning to program in SAS, R, or Python becomes a necessity.
